World Cup and Me
Few days back I and my friend were going to a dining joint to take a snack. On the way we were discussing world cup and our situation last time around. This being the Cricket World Cup time and we being a nation who is cricket crazy and we just went through the past few years and the twists and turns that have taken place in our lives alongside cricket. I just went ahead and compiled a short note on how I was doing at each world cup time.
1975 - Both my Parents were blissfully unaware of what was lying ahead in their lives. I do not how were they with cricket at that time.
1979 - Okie both got married few years back and Elder sister came into existence. Aaap Kataaar mein hai kripaya pratiksha karein.
1983 - Yes, Came into this world and was roaming around semi naked by this time or even naked. Possibly the best times, I should say, no tensions, no worries and still no cricket…just enjoying.
1987 – Hmmm by this time was little into cricket and more into enjoyment.
1992 – The first time I watched cricket on “Star Sports” I think, still new in the country and watching match in neighbor’s house was such fun.
1996 – I was doing my bit of play in this cricket crazy nation. Was actively into cricket and some other sports and education graph was taking a little down ward trip.
1999 – Possibly 90’s were the best years for me in sports and all my laurels and accolades were strictly restricted to the people in gully and colony I played in. A big bunch of cricket crazy friends, who would play the game in any given area or situation i.e. Backyards & Roof tops of our homes, badminton & Shuttle courts, bus stops, cricket grounds and recreation parks...etc etc…. Rains, exams and even some time tuitions could not stop a session of cricket. And as usual the career graph was going down.
2003 – Though for India it was a good year in cricket and may be 20-20 was at its infant stage. At this time when possibly my career graph was also complaining that “how many new lows will you take me to…idiot” and also lost all touch and interest in cricket, I already made and was making some new “Life Twisting” mistakes in my life. People said “Ab tera kya hoga kaliya”.
2007 – Just came out of few best years. Cricket has just become a rarity, playing wise and get to see some cricket on TV, New format of 20-20 was making people crazy. New set of friends with whom, had some memorable times and still continuing. A friend list completely changed, few who were going places, few who were trying new things, few who settled down and many in the US. Had a job at hand and new hopes and plans taking shape. Have a bike of my own - a prized possession for me as of now.
2011 – Playing Cricket is all the more a rare occasion but still having the confidence to put in a good show if at all I get a chance. In the corporate grind and the usual vicious circle and living by the weekends. Own a car, doing some crazy things. Still making good amount of mistakes…..else how would I learn.
2015 – So if at all we see past 2012 Dec 21st and when Australia & New Zealand host the world cup I wish to sit down relaxed and do not wish to see Sachin Tendulkar batting on the pitch. Go take some rest Sachin.
2019 – If I am correct then it will be England that will host the World Cup. This is too far to say anything….but will just wish all the best for everyone.
