Un Button
Did this happen to you any time, when you are giving a ride to a friend and trying to list down the features in the car and the friend asks, “What does this button do?”
Did you ever notice these fake buttons in cars? They are not really buttons but just plastic placeholders indicating that, in higher-end models, there might actually be a real button with a real function. Do you know why manufacturers put these fake buttons? Just you remind you that you have been a cheap fellow when the time came to write that amount on the cheque. And they do it just out of grudge that you have acted smart enough not to buy the higher-end model with unreasonable pricing.
Just recently I and a friend were going in my car and he happened to ask the same question, “What does this button do?”
Me: Nothing. It’s just a piece of plastic
Friend: But it looks like a button
Me: (OMG, How did you figure that out) Ya, but it does nothing
Friend: How come?
Here you have two choices. You could tell the friend you didn’t want to pay exorbitant amount for the high-end model. Or, you can just say you don’t know and be done with it. Of course, if you are a man, you would probably die before you admit you didn’t know.
Me: It does auto navigation in a higher-end model.
Friend: Really? How much more would that model cost?
Me: 5k
Friend: So if you paid 5k you could’ve had auto navigation in this car?
Some people just love to state the obvious inferences. It’s just not that they don’t know the answer but they like to dwell in something that they have just discovered. Do not know if he really took that seriously or not but I felt good with those spontaneous answers from me.
