iValentine
I
have been listening about "Valentine’s Day" for past 10 years (May
be!!) but the concept still feels new to me. Now I might look like an alien to
you but before you categorize me or make me a part of some groups who are not pleased with this concept in India, you must read the below experience. On the way to celebrate the day with my wife and express my love, I went running around shops to get something
new and different for her…..and while doing so I came across a person holding
on to a big box neatly packed and decorated. He was sending them to his friend and
asked some questions.
I will ask you to answer those same questions
for yourself, rather simple ones
•Can you name the last year’s beauty pageant
winners in India?
•Can you name the last five winners of the
Miss World contest winners?
•Can you name 10 people who have won the Nobel
or Pulitzer Prize?
•Can you tell the number of Oscars your
favorite Actor has received?
I
was compelled by the questions and by this time forgot about my shopping, and out
of curiosity I ask him “Sir, why ask these questions” and “whom are you sending
this to?” he replies back with a smile; “ivi anni evariki gruthu untai andi”
(who will remember all these, Sir). I am sending these to a friend of mine who
has helped me a lot.
I
did not ask him anything more…..I was more dumbstruck and lost, as to what that
friend might have done for him and what he his is giving back in return. I just
keep looking at the Big Box and don’t move from there but for once I looked at
him and that is when he says me that those were a Big Box of Chocolates (indeed
a BIG box). And then “Kosa Merupu” He says “A small something to a person who
has helped me and been with me”. After that I also walk out with him from the
shop and we both go on our own ways. The first thing I did was to send a “sms”
to my wife and say what I felt of having her in my life.
None
of us remember the headliners of yesterday despite the fact that they are/were
the best in their fields. Applause, awards and achievements are forgotten. The
people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most
credentials, most money or most awards. They are the ones who care.
So
why not consider the below:
•Can you name three friends who have helped
you through a difficult time?
•Can you name five people who have taught you
something worthwhile?
•Think of a few people who have made you feel
special.
•Think of five people you enjoy spending time
with.
That’s
easier, right? We might have read or heard about these kinds of words but I
just tired it yesterday and I would humbly encourage you to express your
appreciation to the people who move and inspire you, whether it is a romantic
love relationship...your close friends etc etc. And then........let there be
more love.
Tumba chennagide....Keep up the good work...
